Una Vita a Sei Zampe

La toelettatura del cane non è opzionale, ma è necessaria per la salute dell'animale, ma che cos'è? Al contrario di quanto si pensi, non è semplicemente la cura del pelo del cane ma costituisce l'igiene nella sua totalità e quindi anche la pulizia periodica di orecchie, occhi, denti, taglio delle unghie e il bagno, ovviamente.
Solitamente mi trovo a toelettare un cane prima di portarlo in qualche Esposizione di Bellezza e generalmente il cane è già stato lavato, più o meno professionalmente dal proprietario o da qualche professionista. Io mi occupo del resto: taglio delle unghie, del pelo ove necessario e dello stripping, pulizia di orecchie ed occhi se non è già stata fatta e preparazione per la seguente Esposizione direttamente in loco.

Grooming of dogs is not an option. It is required to keep them healthy. But what is it all about? Contrary to common belief, grooming is not only about coat care. It actually includes animal hygiene as a whole, i.e. also periodical cleaning of ears, eyes and teeth, nail trimming and of course bathing.
I usually groom dogs before taking them to conformation shows. Normally, the dogs have already been washed in a more or less professional manner, either by the owner or a professional dog bather. I take care of the rest: I clip the dogs’ nails and trim or strip their coats, whenever necessary, clean their ears and eyes if that hasn’t already been done, and prepare them for the upcoming show on site.
